Made from Paulownia wood laminates, with a bamboo core to add strength and flexibility, the Bull Nose Fishtail can be an all-round bellyboard, or an out-back shredder!
Although Paulownia is classed as a hard wood, it is almost unbelievably light-weight - the board weighs only just over 1.3Kg. It also has far greater bouyancy than virtually any other wooden ply boards out there.
The underside of the board is concave in shape - starting from the base of the rocker curve, down to the tail. This concave helps to channel water flow and create a cavitation effect - which helps in maximising speed and bouyancy on-the-fly. The downturn towards the edges of the board presents the rail in a manner which helps with turning and holding onto the face of a wave.
The main purpose of the Bull Nose shape comes into play if you are out a little deeper than 'regular' bellyboarding and are catching larger, unbroken waves. Unless you are experienced & prepared for it, coming down the face of a wave at speed and hitting the trough at the bottom, can mean a nose-dive - which nobody wants! So, the larger surface area in the rocker curve, that the Bull Nose provides, helps to smooth out the transition into planing. Of course, you do not need to be an experienced daredevil to get the most out of the Bull Nose Fishtail, as it works perfectly well as a simple bellyboard. You may just like the shape, and there's nothing wrong with that!
The woodgrain on these boards is also a stand-out feature, being book-matched (symmetrical) and every single one is unique. The photo of the 4 boards together gives an idea of the variations in grain patterns. Without doubt, they are beautiful to look at.
The board is finished with at least 4 coats of satin, water-based varnish.
Dimensions: 11mm thick, 118cm long, 36.5cm at widest point, tapering to 31.5cm at the tail.
As these boards are finished to order, please allow up to 7 days before shipping. Delivery usually takes 2 to 3 days. We will occaisionally have finished boards ready to go for immediate shipping.
