Our Surfrider Tombstone Fishtail bellyboard is made from 9mm thick, Okoume Marine ply. Okoume is a hardwood so has a lot of strength, but retains a good amount of flex. The flex in a board enhances the bellyboarding experience as you can really feel the power of the wave beneath you, and it helps to make it more agile. Okoume also has the benefit of being very light – the board weighs only 1.7Kg.
The board is 120cm long (just under 4ft), 36.5cm wide at the widest point, tapering down to 32cm at the tail. There is a very slight rocker curve at the nose, just to give the extra reassurance that the front end won’t dig in as you start your ride.
The dimensions and shape of the board make it so easy to catch a wave – a total newcomer to prone surfing would have no problem at all mastering it. Experienced bellyboarders will really appreciate the manoeuvrability and speed it has.
After shaping and sanding, the Moorboards logo and surfrider design is laser engraved permanently into the wood. Then we use several coats of water-based varnish to give a smooth satin finish and superb protection from the sea.
You can have the back of the board personalised (example in the photo) at NO EXTRA COST - to celebrate an anniversary, occasion, or simply to have your name applied, (Maximum 12 words) . ** Please note** Dispatch time for personalised boards is ‘up to’ 10 days. (More usually around 5 days -We always aim to make this as quick as possible) This is because the board is varnished after the engraving and, with several coats to apply, we are restricted by drying times in-between coats.
